A maritime drone of the type used in the Ukraine war exploded on Friday morning (June 5) at the Port of Constanța, Romania’s largest port and one of the main logistical hubs on the Black Sea.
According to information shared by Defence Blog, the incident caused no injuries but mobilized security forces and triggered a large-scale search operation along the Romanian coastline.

According to Romania’s Ministry of Defense, the device was located at approximately 5:50 a.m. on a pier in the civilian port area. Authorities secured the site and began procedures to neutralize the drone, which ultimately self-destructed several hours later.
Following the explosion, Romanian teams discovered three additional maritime drones along the country’s coastline and launched a sweeping operation involving helicopters and naval forces. More than a thousand people were evacuated as a precaution from beaches and nearby areas while the threat was assessed.
Ukrainian authorities stated that the drone had lost control during a mission in the Black Sea after being affected by Russian electronic warfare measures, causing it to drift into Romanian waters. Moscow, however, denied any involvement and attributed responsibility to the Ukrainian equipment.
It is worth emphasizing that the Port of Constanța is strategically important for the export of Ukrainian goods through the Black Sea, making it particularly sensitive to the indirect effects of the conflict.
